Big Tides

The Bristol Channel has the second-largest tidal range on Earth. South Gower spring tides range some 10 m between low and high water, while tides in the Loughor Estuary range somewhat less. Natural changes according to the orbits of our heavenly neighbours and to seasonal weather systems can cause significant variations.

Estuary out-going tide against the “Slags” training wall runs about 1 metre above the sand on the outside.
Viewed along the “Slags” back towards Penclawdd, the upstream water is clearly about 1 m above that on the right.
